Employee Wellness Newsletter
August 2019: Sleep Well

“Sleep is that golden chain that ties health and our bodies together.” – Fields, W.C.

The everyday choices we make can help us live healthier, happier and more fulfilling lives. The CGO Employee Wellness Newsletter provides monthly resources and education on a variety of topics like nutrition, exercise, emotional health and resilience, prevention and more. Our hope is that this information empowers you to incorporate sustainable healthy habits for a lifetime of good health and well-being!

August focuses on healthy sleep. 45% of Americans say that poor or insufficient sleep affects their daily activities at least once in the past seven days, according to the National Sleep Foundation’s inaugural Sleep Health Index. Getting enough sleep each night is vital for our performance, concentration, safety, mood, and health. Utilize these tips and resources below to learn to stay healthy and function at your best each and every day!

Sleep Well Tips:

  • Create a good sleep environment to include: a comfortable room temperature (between 60-67 degrees), minimal noise, eye shades, fans, humidifiers, and sufficient darkness

  • Keep a regular schedule where you go to bed and wake up at the same time each day

  • Aim to get the recommended hours of sleep for adults, children and teens

  • Exercise daily – light exercise is better than no exercise

  • Sleep on a comfortable mattress and pillow

  • Keep track of habits that help you wind down such as relaxing music or reading before bed.  Repeat those activities each night

  • Avoid caffeine, alcohol and nicotine in the evening

  • If you are still having trouble sleeping, don’t hesitate to speak with your doctor or find a sleep professional
