Some elevator insurance programs exclude general liability coverage for work on hoist(s). This is a significant exclusion for companies working in the elevator contracting business. Uncovered claims can have devastating consequences on well established contractors. Hoist work often presents a significant portion of an elevator contractor’s general liability exposure. The contractor sometimes feels stuck with their current program because very few carriers can offer coverage for elevator contractors specifically working on hoists. Too often, elevator contractors settle for whatever renewal terms are offered, and put their company at risk for an uncovered claim.
