Summer Smoothies - Click Here to View our Healthy Smoothie Essentials

Smoothies are a great way to pack a whole lot of goodness into one drink. Many store bought smoothies, or even the ones we make on our own can be dis-proportioned with excess fruit that puts our blood sugar on a roller coaster ride and leaves us hungry just a few hours later. Although fruit is a nutrient dense food, we want to incorporate other food components to make a well-balanced, satiating meal or snack.

Here are the components to check off in each smoothie recipe:

  1. Base- Unsweetened version of either coconut milk or almond milk. Sometimes, I even just use water or coffee!
  2. Fats- This might be ½ an avocado, 1 Tablespoon of nut butter or 1-2 Tablespoon of flax or chia seeds. These fats will help blunt a blood sugar spike and keep us satiated for hours.
  3. Protein-There are so many powdered protein sources on the market. I usually go with either a collagen or grass fed whey option and add 1-2 scoops. Cottage cheese and unsweetened Greek yogurt work too. Protein will give you additional satiating signals and boost dopamine and serotonin production.
  4. Fruit- Aim for just ¼-1/2 cup of fruit. Berries are great because they are low in sugar, high in antioxidants and high in fiber with the additional seeds.
  5. Greens/Veggies - Great way to sneak in kale, spinach, or even frozen cauliflower. The fiber will feed our gut bacteria and help keep our digestive tract moving. Two handfuls is good!
  6. Extras: Spices: Cinnamon, turmeric, Superfood powders: cacao, spirulina, acai, matcha, chlorophyll

*A Note on Topping Granola* Some granola’s are loaded with sugar. Be mindful of portions (recommend ¼ cup)
Recommended Granola brands: Purely Elizabeth Kitchfix Milk and Honey ProGranola Bear Naked Fit Oat My goodness Wildway

Client Testimonials

"When I started my role as Director of Human Resources with Westell Technologies, my goal was to create an environment where our dedicated and hard-working employees would feel appreciated and cared for by their management team. Our partners at CGO were poised and ready to help meet that goal.

In walks Kayla like a ray of sunshine with her wealth of knowledge and endless list of ideas on how to incorporate wellness into the workplace at Westell. We put our heads and hearts together and by the end of that initial meeting, we had a calendar year full of activities to present to the Westell Team. Being new, I was worried about how the employees would react to the programs which included “Lunch and Learn” seminars, healthy “smoothie day” and our first Health and Wellness Fair. I was amazed by the immediate, enthusiastic response and that enthusiasm has carried on for two years and counting.

The recent addition of Madeline to the CGO Wellness Team has been fantastic as our employees are eager to learn about the power of optimum nutrition. She has taught us how to “Get Your Plate in Shape” and how to build a delicious trail mix to nourish our brains.

Westell employees are active participants in every offering and share lots of great suggestions and ideas to keep the wellness program going strong. I am extremely grateful for Kayla, Madeline and the entire team at CGO for helping to build a great culture at Westell. They get a five-star rating and standing ovation from me and the entire staff at Westell Technologies!"

- Debra Dunne, Director of Human Resources, Westell Technologies

"CGO is our valued Employee Benefits Partner.  In our opinion, their expertise in the employee Wellness arena is a huge differentiator.

Under the direction of Kayla Isaacs their contributions and guidance have made a significant impact on our business.  Year over year we have seen our biometrics improve. Even more remarkable is the fact that employee engagement has increased exponentially.  Our employees look forward to our Wellness programming, especially Wellness Wednesday visits from Kayla and Madeline!

Thank you, Kayla, and CGO, for all that you do to support our Wellness journey."

- Susan Ryan, VP of HR, Victor Envelope

“Kayla and Madeline have been great partners and have provided resources to help our employees improve their health and wellness. We have been able use many of their programs and communication to help bring more awareness not only from a physical standpoint, but mental and emotional too. Our employees look forward to our quarterly challenges, monthly newsletters, or video seminars that all have information provided by the CGO Wellness team. For me personally it has made this aspect of my job seamless, which has allowed me to also enjoy the programs and progress our employees have made.” - Erin Murphy - HR Coordinator, West Side Tractor
