Car Insurance in Illinois

Illinois car insurance quotes can vary based on a range of factors, including the type of coverage chosen, the driver's age and driving history, the type of car being insured, and even the driver's zip code. Illinois is considered a "fault" state when it comes to car insurance, meaning that whoever is found to be more than 50% at fault for the accident is required to cover the other party’s damages. Other states may be no-fault states, meaning that your insurance covers your vehicle, no matter who is at fault.

Illinois drivers are required by law to carry liability insurance, which covers the costs of damages and injuries to others if you are found to be at fault in an accident. The minimum liability coverage required by law in Illinois is $25,000 per person / $50,000 per occurrence, with a state minimum of $20,000 property damage coverage. This means that in the event of an accident, your carrier will pay up to $25,000 for one person in that accident if you are found to be liable. However, if 5 people are injured, there is a maximum limit of $50,000 per occurrence. In this instance, the $50,000 would be divided amongst those injured in the accident if you are found liable. Unfortunately, that $50,000 won’t go very far when multiple people are injured. The $20,000 state minimum for property damage (other vehicles you damage) will not go very far either with the current price of vehicles. At CGO, we will always recommend increased limits to our clients, and we would be happy to help you find the limits that work best for you and your family.

In addition to liability insurance, Illinois drivers may also choose to purchase collision coverage, which covers the costs of damages to their own vehicle in the event of an accident, regardless of who is at fault. Comprehensive coverage is another option, which covers damages to a vehicle caused by non-collision events such as theft, weather-related damage, or vandalism.

When shopping for Illinois car insurance quotes, it is important to compare the coverage levels and deductibles offered by different providers to ensure that you are getting the best value for your money. It is also important to consider any discounts for bundling policies with the same provider, maintaining a safe driving record, or installing certain safety features in your vehicle.

Ultimately, investing in adequate car insurance coverage can provide peace of mind and financial protection in the event of an accident or other unforeseen event.
