Privacy Checkup: Ensuring Your Paycheck and Personal Data Align

Updating your personal information with HR/payroll might not always be top of mind. However, it’s critical that you keep HR in the loop on any changes occurring at home. It’s important to ensure every detail, down to your demographic information, is current and accurate with your HR department and payroll provider.

Regularly checking your paycheck sets the stage for a hassle-free tax season and ensures faster issue resolution. Addressing any questions, concerns or changes promptly is crucial. Waiting until tax season is not advisable.

What do we recommend?

  • Review your pay stub! Have you….
    • Relocated? Is your address correct? Are your taxes accurate?
    • Recently adjusted your 401k or took out a loan? Is it reflected correctly on your pay statement?
    • Submitted new withholding forms? Did they update in payroll?
    • Elected/canceled benefits during open enrollment? Changes in family status? Are your deductions accurate?

Keep in mind that this is just as important after you leave a company. If you will be receiving a Form W-2, you need to ensure your former employer has an accurate mailing/email address on file.
